The Solar Project Management Pathway includes:

  1.  REPV: Fundamentals of Design and Installation of PV Systems
  2.  REPV-A: Advanced Design and Installation of Photovoltaic Systems
  3.  CREM: Certificate in Renewable Energy Management

This education pathway sets you on the path towards the NABCEP PV Installation Professional Certification, NABCEP PV Technical Sales Certification and your Renewable Energy Technologies Diploma.

This education pathway is ideal for people interested in business and project management. REPV and REPVA provide fundamental and advanced technical knowledge on solar PV while CREM is focused more on business, policy, finance, and project management for renewables, including solar PV, wind, bioenergy, and more.

By completing this pathway, you receive a certificate of completion from NC State for REPV, REPVA, and CREM. You also receive the non-degree Renewable Energy Technologies diploma for completing 120 hours of training.

After completing REPV, you are eligible to sit for the NABCEP PV Associate Exam.

The PV Technician Pathway includes:

  1.  REPV: Fundamentals of Design and Installation of PV Systems
  2.  REPV-A: Advanced Design and Installation of Photovoltaic Systems
  3.  Solar Storage Workshop
  4. O&M: Operations and Maintenance of PV Systems

This education pathway sets you on the path towards the NABCEP PV Installation Professional Certification and your Renewable Energy Technologies Diploma.

This pathway is ideal for people who want to work in the industry on the technical side. People typically begin as a solar installer trained to work on rooftop or utility-scale projects and work their way up from there.

REPV and REPVA provide fundamental and advanced technical knowledge on solar PV. After completing REPV, you are able to install a fully functional grid-tied PV system. REPVA provides more technical knowledge and delves into the National Electric Code (NEC). O&M focuses on operations and maintenance of PV systems, using hands-on activities to learn how to use different types of equipment. Solar Storage gives an introduction to different types of battery storage for solar PV.

By completing this pathway, you receive a certificate of completion from NC State for REPV, REPVA, O&M and Solar Storage. You also receive the non-degree Renewable Energy Technologies diploma for completing 120 hours of training.

After completing REPV, you are eligible to sit for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) PV Associate Exam.

Home Performance Professional

The Home Performance Professional Pathway includes*:

  1.  REPV: Fundamentals of Design and Installation of PV Systems
  2.  REPV-A: Advanced Design and Installation of Photovoltaic Systems
  3.  BPI Building Analyst and Envelope Specialist
  4.  RESNET HERS Rater

This education pathway sets you on the course to earning a Building Performance Institute (BPI) certification and/or Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Rater Certification while also earning your Renewable Energy Technologies Diploma.

This pathway is ideal for people interested in residential energy efficiency for existing homes (BPI) and/or for new construction homes (RESNET). REPV and REPVA provide fundamental and advanced technical knowledge on solar PV. The BPI Building Analyst and Envelope Specialist training provides a dual certification with specialization in building pressure boundary and thermal envelope.  RESNET HERS Rater trains you to be a Home Energy Rater, i.e. you can measure home energy efficiency and performance.

By completing this pathway, you receive a certificate of completion from NC State for REPV and REPVA along with the Renewable Energy Technologies Diploma. You must pass written and field exams to receive your BPI ES and BPI ES certifications. You must pass written exams to receive your RESNET HERS Rater certification.

*Only three of these classes are required to earn the Renewable Energy Technologies Diploma. You may choose which three you are interested in to achieve your 120 hours of training.
