On March 25, 2024, as part of President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced six state-based projects that will receive federal funding through the Renewable Energy Siting through Technical Engagement and Planning (R-STEP) grant. One of the awarded projects is a collaborative project between North and South Carolina called the Carolinas Renewable Energy Development Assistance and Siting Hub (DASH), and it is being led by NC State University’s North Carolina Clean Energy Technology Center (NCCETC). Among the collaborative, NCCETC is partnering with the NC Cooperative Extension, the Center for Energy Education, the South Carolina Energy Office, and the Southeastern Wind Coalition to carry out the project.
As part of the Carolinas Renewable Energy DASH, NCCETC, and its partners are engaging with communities to better understand local concerns and thoughts about large-scale solar and wind energy project development.
To effectively involve communities, NCCETC is hosting community meetings throughout the Carolinas in locations with existing projects and where future developments are planned. These meetings will allow those attending to voice their thoughts and concerns about large-scale renewable energy planning, siting, and permitting in their area and learn more about the Carolinas Renewable Energy DASH project and its impacts on the region.
Attending a community meeting will give you the opportunity to utilize your voice and help inform the planning, siting, and permitting processes for large-scale projects in the Carolinas.
The feedback from these meetings will help identify topics and questions for future educational community workshops and technical assistance and shape the project’s online technical assistance hub with resources for communities across the Carolinas.
