NCSU Solar House

The NCSU Solar House was built incorporating readily available solar and energy efficient technologies to serve three primary purposes: demonstration, education, and research.

The NCSU Solar House was built in 1981.

The primary purpose of the Solar House is for STEM education and outreach. Anyone looking for information on solar home construction or personal home improvements should contact the NC Clean Energy Technology Center. Tours of the Solar House are now managed through The Engineering Place at NC State University.

If you are interested in an educational tour and hands-on activities relating to the Solar House, please visit The Engineering Place’s Solar House page for more information. The Solar House is primarily for K-12 STEM education and outreach, but The Engineering Place can also provide tours for other interested groups.

The address of the Solar House is 1201 Gorman St, Raleigh, NC 27606. It is located right next to the McKimmon Center with access to free parking.
