The energy crops program is focused on developing agriculture-based feedstock for use in biofuels and biopower production. At the heart of the program is rural economic development and environmental stability. Over the last few years we have worked with farmers and other stakeholders to advance knowledge in production and economic feasibility of canola, tropical sugar beets, and switchgrass.
Canola has been our main focus for the past five years. We have conducted research on best-suited varieties and fertility management, small scale processing, and have continued to work with stakeholders to develop markets for canola.
