Policy & Markets
The Center helps businesses, policymakers, and organizations develop clean energy and transportation initiatives in the state. To promote economic development, we assist businesses by providing them information regarding state regulatory and tax policies as well as other resources. As an educator of energy policy in the state, our organization also conducts extensive research about financial incentives for the industry through the DSIRE program and collaborates with other entities for policy research. Moreover, the Center consults with citizens, local governments, and organizations to provide clean technology implementation strategies.
One current policy program that is promoting clean energy through consulting local governments is the Solar Outreach Partnership (SolarOPs). The program is part of a broad U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) effort and conducts outreach to thousands of local governments across the country. This outreach aims to accelerate local solar energy projects by providing timely and actionable information to government officials across the United States.
The Center’s staff is available by request to provide technical assistance to North Carolina policymakers and other stakeholders developing policies regarding renewable energy, energy efficiency and alternative fuels. Staff from the Center also attend and participate in meetings of in-state and regional non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) with a focus on sustainable energy issues. The staff is also available to make presentations regarding the state of North Carolina energy policy when invited to do so.
