Each year, the NC Clean Energy Technology Center (NCCETC) looks forward to celebrating Earth Month by showcasing alternative fuel vehicles while educating the public on sustainable transportation solutions. The Center also participates in Drive Electric Earth Month, a national campaign that promotes electrification through in-person and online events.

On April 1, 2026, NCCETC held an Electric Vehicle (EV) Display and Ride & Drive event at NC State University’s Centennial Campus, which is home to key NC State academic units, labs, companies, core facilities, and one of the world’s most advanced libraries.

Numerous volunteers from local governments, dealerships, and the general public brought vehicles to showcase as part of the static display. Additionally, many vehicles joined the “ride & drive” part of the event, where individuals with valid driver’s licenses had the opportunity to test drive select alternative fuel vehicles.

Vehicles available for the ride & drive included a Mini Cooper S EV, Ford Mustang Mach E, Ford F150 Hybrid, Ford F150 Lightning, Chevrolet Blazer EV, Chevrolet Equinox EV, and Tesla Models S, 3, and Y. Electric Spin scooters and bikes were also available to test drive.

Attendees enjoyed interacting with the vehicle owners and sparked various conversations about alternative fuels and EVs. Additional Tesla Models were part of the static display, along with a Chevy Bolt EV, Ford F150 Lightning, Volkswagen ID. 4, and Ford Mustang Mach E GT.

The Center looks forward to seeing how the volunteers use their vehicles in unique ways during these events. Showcasing the many ways an EV can be utilized is a great way to spark conversation with passersby and promote the benefits of alternative fuel vehicles.

Many more vehicle displays will be taking place during the remainder of April as part of Drive Electric Earth Month. The next event NCCETC is hosting will be a Clean Transportation Demonstration Day on April 20, limited to government and utility representatives. To access educational resources and learn more about EVs, visit learnaboutevs.org.
