If you’re looking for a new career, the solar industry is looking for you!

NC State University is offering a free solar training bootcamp.

Space is limited. You can apply until May 9, but early applications are encouraged, so get yours in today!

No prior experience is required. Recent high school graduates are welcome. A GED or high school diploma is required to participate in the program. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Travel costs, lodging and meals will be provided. Additional supporting services will be available, as needed.

The vibrant solar industry offers a wide range of opportunities including – residential roof-top solar, disaster response, agricultural applications, operations and maintenance, and large-scale solar.

NC State’s College of Natural Resources (CNR) and the NC Clean Energy Technology Center (NCCETC) are partnering to offer this bootcamp which will prepare participants for careers in the solar industry like solar design, construction, maintenance, sales, and more.

The program is recruiting participants who are based in southeastern North Carolina, where there is high potential for solar energy growth and infrastructure development. The twelve counties included in the program are: Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, New Hanover, Pender, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, and Scotland.

Training will be held this summer at NC State University and in subsequent years is expected to be held at Sampson Community College and UNC Pembroke.

This program will place trainees on a direct path to a career in the solar industry. Allison Carr, Training Program Manager at NCCETC, says, “our ultimate goal is to connect students with internships, apprenticeships, or full-time jobs in the solar industry. We know there are many types of educational pathways to jobs. We will support students by matching their interests and skills with the training and mentorship needed to start a great career.”

Trainees will participate in a five-day training program developed by NC State, UNC Pembroke, and Sampson Community College which provides in-depth and hands-on training in solar technologies. Participants will also be matched with mentors and will engage with industry professionals to develop essential workplace skills that will prepare them for a career in the solar industry.

Participants who complete the bootcamp will be supported by their mentors in obtaining internships, additional certificates, or degree programs. The combination of training and mentorship is intended to build a solar career pathway system for mid-tier and upper-tier solar energy jobs for program participants.

Funding for the bootcamp is provided through a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.
